Brakes checked and fixed by people who measure first
Brakes are not a guessing game. When your car comes in, we inspect and measure pad thickness, disc condition, calliper operation, pipes, hoses and fluid, and then tell you what actually needs doing before anything is touched. No work is undertaken without your authorisation, and all work is guaranteed.
We are best known as Liverpool's clutch and gearbox specialists, but the same standard applies on brakes: quality parts, time-served technicians, and honest advice from a family firm that has been on Aigburth Road since 1977.
Warning signs your brakes need looking at
- Squealing or scraping when you brake. The pads are reaching the end of their life.
- Grinding. The friction material has gone and it is metal on metal. Stop and book in.
- A soft, long or spongy pedal. Air or moisture in the fluid, or a hydraulic fault.
- Pulling to one side under braking, often a sticking calliper.
- Vibration or pulsing through the pedal, usually warped or worn discs.
What we repair and replace
Pads, discs, callipers, wheel cylinders, brake pipes and hoses, fluid changes, and handbrake adjustments and repairs. We use quality parts equivalent to original equipment, the same parts philosophy as the LUK and Valeo clutches we are known for.
Brakes are also checked as part of every car service, so a service with us doubles as a brake health check.
Call 0151 726 1777 with your registration and we will talk you through what your car needs. If you are not sure whether the noise is brakes or something else, describe it and we will give you a straight opinion over the phone.

Frequently asked questions
How do I know if my brake pads need replacing?
The common signs are squealing or scraping when you brake, a grinding noise once the pads are worn through, a longer or softer pedal, and the car pulling to one side. Many cars also have a wear-indicator warning light. Any of these means book a brake check promptly.
Should brake discs be replaced with the pads?
Not always. Discs are measured during the brake check. If they are above the minimum thickness and not warped, scored or lipped, new pads alone are fine. We measure and tell you what the readings are, rather than defaulting to the dearer job.
What does a grinding noise when braking mean?
Grinding usually means the pad friction material has worn away and metal is contacting the disc. It damages the discs quickly and reduces braking performance, so stop driving on it where possible and get the car checked straight away.
How long does a brake repair take?
Pads on one axle are typically done within an hour or two. Pads and discs take a little longer, and calliper work depends on the fault. We usually have a spare ramp for same-day brake jobs, so call first and we will fit you in.
