A proper service, from people who fix the difficult jobs
Servicing at Top Gear Transmissions is carried out by the same time-served technicians who rebuild gearboxes and differentials all day. They notice the early signs of trouble because they spend their working lives fixing what happens when it gets missed.
We have serviced Liverpool's cars from our Aigburth Road workshop since 1977. Many customers came for a clutch years ago and have had every service with us since. That is the business model: do it properly and people come back.

Genuine parts, manufacturer schedules, your authorisation
Three rules we have kept for nearly fifty years:
- Genuine or OE-quality parts only, the same standard we hold for the LUK and Valeo clutches we fit.
- Manufacturer service schedules, so your warranty and service history stay intact.
- No work without authorisation. If the inspection finds something, you get a phone call first. Always.
The gearbox specialists' service
Here is the difference between a service at Top Gear and a service at a fast-fit chain: while the car is on the ramp, the people underneath it are transmission specialists. Every service includes a transmission health check, covering clutch operation, gear selection, driveshaft gaiters, mounts and any early driveline noises, because catching a small fault early beats funding a big one later.
If your clutch feels heavy or your gearbox has developed a whine, mention it when you book and we will road test it properly as part of the visit.
All work guaranteed
Servicing work and parts are guaranteed, see our published warranty terms, and there is usually a spare ramp for same-day appointments if you call first.
“I want to thank the team for the outstanding service they provided to my deaf uncle. They were patient, respectful, and made sure communication was clear throughout. They explained the work needed and kept him informed in a way that was easy for him to understand. The repair was completed professionally and at a fair price, but what stood out most was the kindness and consideration they showed. It's reassuring to find a business that treats every customer with such care.”
“Excellent, professional and friendly service. The repair cost me less than I thought. I highly recommend.”

Frequently asked questions
How often should I service my car?
As a rule of thumb, an interim service every 6,000 miles or six months and a full service every 12,000 miles or twelve months, whichever comes first. Your handbook sets the exact schedule for your car, and we always work to the manufacturer's intervals.
How long does a car service take?
An interim service is usually done within a couple of hours. A full service typically takes around half a day, depending on the car and what the checks turn up. Book in early and the car is normally ready the same day, and we call you first if anything extra needs doing.
What is the difference between an interim and a full service?
An interim service covers the essentials, an oil and filter change plus safety checks, and suits higher-mileage drivers between annual services. A full service adds the manufacturer's complete checklist, including the extra filters, plugs and fluids due for your car's age and mileage.
Do you stamp the service history?
Yes. We service to the manufacturer's schedule using genuine or OE-quality parts, which protects your warranty and resale value, and we stamp your service book. Please note we stamp the physical service book and do not update online digital service records.
